dmesg command not functioning

dmesg command not functioning ....

Can anyone suggest why the following is happening please?

When I use dmesg (which has worked in the past) to list the startup actions, I get the following error message:

"lost async page write due to I/O error on 08:40"

I am at a loss as to where to look. Everything else is fine.

The O/S is SuSe professional 8.2

From a "Newbie" (only been at Linux for the last six years and STILL a Newbie!)

You only get that one message when running dmesg? Often the error message is related to hardware (USB, SCSI things like that).

Did you search the net?
