Exclamation Display issue when booting from Wolvix Hunter 1.1.0 LiveCd

Ok so... 1st post here. I've installed many distros of Linux and toyed with them but I still consider myself a bit of a NixNewb and have yet to settle on a distro. I have an extensive technical knowledge of computers in general though so the konsole doesnt scare me at all.

I first loaded the Wolvix Hunter 1.1.0 LiveCd onto an older compaq presario laptop that a co-worker gave me when she dropped it and said the screen was all wonky. (the interface cable was loose=free equipment).

The laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chip and everything booted and even installed to the HD fine.

I decided I like the Wolvix propaganda and setup so I decide to backup the main desktop and install Wolvix there.

I boot into the LiveCd... I can't remember where in verbose mode that it does this but I'd assume somewhere just before calling the login screen my monitor says "INPUT NOT SUPPORTED" as if the resolution is bad.

From what I understand the default res on Wolvix is 1024x768 16bbp or something around that. The laptop can only support 1024x768 but my desktop and monitor can support at least 1280x1024.

The desktop has an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro series AGP 8x 128mb card on an ASUS motherboard.

I tried using a few random cheats on the boot prompt like autoexec=xconf and load=geforce and initially I tried just a clean boot without parameters. All result the same.

I have been searching for a solution and come up with very little relevancy in the past two days. The Wolvix Wiki seemed to have very little going on in it so far (maybe I didn't hit the right links?)

Regardless I'd love to finally settle on this distro and get to installing my VMware so I can still run tests, apps, and virtual crash machines from inside Linux without depending on XP anymore. Which I am sure I will be more willing to tweak and config than being unable to even get into a LiveCd because of my older graphics setup.

Thanks in advance.

hi

This is what I normally would do.

Boot into the command prompt mode. go to the /etc/X11/xorg.config and manually edit it. Normally that helps. But sometimes that file is way too complicated to handle.

As Wolvix is based on Slackware, you may also try 'xorgconfig' or 'xorgsetup' at the command prompt(try the later first). I think you would be doing just fine with that.

Unhappy Wolvix Boot options

So I tried to start xconf with

wolvix autoexec=xconf

I tried

wolvix noagp

Which gets me a little bit further into the verbose mode process screen but still lands me with an "Input Not Supported" on my LCD when it gets to loading the environment (that I never see).

Honestly though I am not sure what option parameter to use to boot into the command shell. If any one knows how to do that on the Wolvix LiveCd than please let me know.

I guess I can only edit config files on the virtual memory since this is just booting into the LiveCd that I can't get working. I don't know if that limits by ability to edit configurations before boot.

I tried numerous other commands on the morbid chance they would do something but most of the other ones just error out and shutdown the system when verbose states that it's executing the parameter.

Thanks in advance everyone.
