Exclamation Difference between Add/Remove Applications and Synaptic Package Manager

Hello experts, good afternoon.

I'm a bit confuse with these two programs here Add/Remove Applications and Synaptic Package Manager. It is said that the Add/Remove Applications is a basic method and while the Synaptic Package Manager is advanced method.

My questions are:
1. What makes of these two programs difference?
2. What makes Add/Remove Applications as a basic method?
3. What makes Synaptic Package Manager as a advanced method?

Hope someone will answer my confusions.

Take care and God bless.

Smile The difference

Hi

I'm not sure what distro you are using, but here is the general difference.

'add/remove programs' is exactly that. You can install or uninstall packages and thats generally it.

Synaptic Package Manager allows you to mark packages that have updates available. Lets you filter your package views with more options and lets you change repositories.

Hope i've been some help.

A menu entry like "Add/Remove Programs" is generally just another name for the package manager--eg Synaptic, YAST, etc. It probably still takes care of dependencies.

For better information, tell us what distro you are using.

As far as I know, there are 2 package managers used with Ubuntu---Synaptic and Adept.

When you run "Add/Remove Programs", click on "help" and see what the actual program is.

Hello Sir, good morning.

What I've observed and gained from the Internet.

Add/Remove Applications:
1. This program is came from the Synaptic Package Manager.
2. The complete title of the program is already posted and it is not difficult to find the software.

Synaptic Package Manager:
1. This program is where Add/Remove Applications came from, let just say "root" of the Add/Remove Applications.
2. When you search something a software the dependencies of the software are included as well not only the main program.

These are the things that I've observed for now. Please make some corrections or add some info.

Thanks and God bless.

another difference i've noted, add/remove gives you the base program +dependancies, where as synaptic will let you install "extra" modules as well, such as language packs, etc.
