Hey, I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 and from last week I can not cut/copy and paste using gui. When I click on cut/copy buttons it does not enable the paste button(in the context menu which i get when right clicked on a file)
Terminal cp command is working and I can copy/paste texts. And I can drag and drop files too. But It is a pain without regular cut and copy.
Any solution for this please.
Thanks

Please make it a habit to be specific in what
you're talking/asking about; seeing your thread
title I assumed you can't copy & paste text between
apps .. only towards the end it becomes clear that
you're talking about a GUI file-manager. It would
be important to know which one you're using, and
from which location to which new location you're
trying to copy.
I suppose you are using Thunar of Kfce. Try use Cut & Paste using "the same window", browse to the dir to paste to, if it works fine, I had that issue before.
If not, check the file permissions you're working on.
Sorry for not being specific
I tried using dolphin and konquerer. Both acts same. I'm trying to copy files in my home folder and I have rights to do that.(I can copy same file to same location using terminal but it is easy if I have GUI).
What *is* the target location? What do you see in a terminal (or in ~/.xsession-errors) when
you fire konqueror up in a konsole? Does it give you any hints/errors?
This is the section in ~/.xsession-errors that is related to the loading konquerer-> go to ~/Documents folder-> click on copy by right clicking a file(or Ctrl+C).

And for further detail, I recently changed my hostname by editing /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts files. Is it related with this? I think it's not, but just mentioned.
A help will be much appreciated. Thanks for your concern.
This all doesn't reveal too much I'm afraid. Try creating a new users,
and see how that behaves. If the copy & paste works there it's maybe
some setting you accidentally changed.
