[2 replies, not solved yet]Cut&Paste not working on web-based Java chats

When I entered a Java based chatroom, I was unable to cut & paste text to and from the applett. I asked around on IRC, but no luck. They told me it was an internal linux problem. I've also figured out this has nothing to do with the chatroom itself, I have this problem in all chatrooms. So yes it probably is a linux problem.

I am in a chatroom almost all day, and that's the only reason I'm still using windows. I simply need clipboard support if I am to trade links and stuff with the people in the chatroom.

I seem to have this problem with all linux distro's I have had my hands on, Debian, Slackware and Knoppix. I've tried both Mozilla and Opera.

But surely I'm not the first to encounter this problem. I tried searching for a solution on google, but no luck. Have others had this problem before, and if so, do they know how to fix it?

It seems that the Java applet is interpreting the hotkeys before linux, so it returns a white square character instead of the clipboard contents. I know nothing about Java myself, so I could be wrong though.

EDIT: isn't there a program which sends the text on the clipboard letter by letter separately to the cursor position? Kinda like how cut & paste in a dos screen using my current win'98 works?

well i am not sure if you tried it, but did you try using the shortcut keys ?
ctrl-c (copy)
ctrl-v (paste)
?

i know there are certain programs i use, although not java based, but i cannot use the traditional (highlight, right click, copy, paste) method .. so i use shortcut keys ...

just wondering if you tried that method ?

Yeah I did use those. A right mouse button menu simply didn't even appear. It does appear on the exact same chatrooms when I use windows. But surely there must be a solution because this is the final barrier I have before I can ditch windows completely
