Converting Win7 PC to linux -> failed install and unable to try again?

Hello,
I'm brand new to linux, and I want to convert a few year old windows 7 PC of mine over to linux so I can do some more advanced programming that I can't do with windows.
I created a bootable USB drive with the ubuntu distro and set my bios to boot from usb. The install seemed to be going fine, creating partitions etc but at the end of it after copying the files, it said "sorry the installer has crashed..."

I thought well no biggie, I'll just try again. But now when booting up I keep getting System Halted uncompression error.

The bootable USB menu comes up everytime, I've tried all them
  • Try linux
  • Install linux
  • Check for disk errors
  • advanced options
  • help
The check for disk errors options doesn't seem to do anything, it looks like it enters a console/terminal with a flash cursor and I am unable to type...

How can I try to install ubuntu again?

Sounds like a bad USB. What did you use to create the USB stick?

Hi,

Sounds like a corrupted Download of the ISO. You should confirm a valid ISO before burning the image to the media.
Look at; https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Quote:
When one has downloaded an ISO file for installing or trying Ubuntu, it is recommended to test that the file is correct and safe to use. The MD5 calculation gives a checksum (called a hash value), which must equal the MD5 value of a correct ISO.
The program md5sum is designed to verify data integrity using the MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) 128-bit cryptographic hash. MD5 hashes used properly can confirm both file integrity and authenticity.
Most Gnu/Linux will provide the md5sum/hash for each ISO image so you can verify the download.

You should also validate the image that you have copied/burned to the media. Look at; MD5SUM on CD

EDIT: UbuntuHashes provides the hash codes.
Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!
