configure and set ou home server

I have a main desktop with Ubuntu 11 (through Wubi but barely use windows 7 anymore) on it, wireles router, laptop with Debain 6 server LAMP packages etc installed but not configured, DAS storage with a couple of hard drives and a wireless netbook. The main desktop has lamp packages installed but not configured.

I am a linux newbie - no doubt the above mess of a set up demonstrates!

So far network wise all i have managed to achieve is the disappointing set up Samba server for netbook via the wireless connection to read /home files on main desktop pc. Interestingly the deskop could not read the netbook /home file for some reason when try to do the reverse process?

I am keen to learn linux to set up home network for file sharing across two or three machines, with print server and progress so I understand the set up properly and then progress to being able to set up a small slightly more complex network of server system. Started with a read of Debian Squeeze basics page which even that for a newbie mucking around gets hard going after a while.

Can you refer me to online sources which takes you step by step through matters - not quite linux for dummies style. I want to avoid using Amahi etc

i' typed in lamp into google and the third link looks promising.
would start there and ask specific questions in a thread if you get stuck.
