Compiling - Noob question

I have installed Suse Linux 9.1 Personal Edition on my Computer and want to compile the Apache and MySql Server. (I only worked with windows before and there its done with one click)

The Problem is: When i start the ./configure in the unpacked mysql server folder, i get the following error:

Code:
linux:/usr/local/src/lamp/mysql-3.23.58 # ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql/3.23.58 --localstatedir=/var/mysql/data

I have no idea if there is a compiler in the personal version of suse and how i set up the one who is installed, if there is any.

(I hope you understood my question ... German )

if you're German i'll give you a multilanguage answer

english:
in the personal version of suse no compiler is installed. you can look for gcc- packages in yast. if you can't find them, get the suse rpms online. why don't you get apache & mysql as rpms?

Open a terminal (click on the icon in the tray which looks like a terminal) and issue the command 'which gcc' (without quotes) and press enter. It should return something like /usr/bin/gcc if gcc is installed. If it's there, then /usr/bin/gcc is not in your PATH. You should include the ./configure option to point to that location (type ./configure --help to get a list of options). There should be an option you can specify which will tell configure where to find gcc.

Ok ich versuch die Antwort dann nochmal in englisch (verstehen tu ich alles aber mit dem schreiben haperts):

When i tried to install the apache rpm there was an error that had something to do with some mpm stuff and i could not find a solution for that problem. So i searched a tutorial for installing the apache server from the sources. It would be nice if you could tell me where i can find a gcc rpm (i think a linux without a compiler is not very usefull) and how i can get that mpm working.

(which gcc did not tell anything)
