command for monitor power off

Hi I was just wondering if there was a command to power my LCD monitor completely off? at the moment when i use

/usr/X11R6/bin/xset dpms force off

it only suspends it (power light flashes)

i've (finally) got lirc working and want to attach the power button of the remote to turn the screen on/off (not hibernate).

Any ideas?

Sorry, do you think that's actually possible? I mean, once power was off,
which part of the monitor would be capable of responding to a power-on?
