Unhappy cnxadsl on debian 2.4.22

I'm running a debian box with 2.4.22 kernel (no GUI).

I have installed a Conexant PCI ADSL modem.

The modem seems to initialise. ('click' from the modem when I run /etc/init.d/cnxadslctl start.

I've downloaded and installed ppp-2.4.0b2.
I've downloaded and installed ppp-2.4.0b2-patched.
I've downloaded and installed linux-atm-2.4.0.

But when i run pon i get:

/usr/sbin/pppd: /usr/src/ppp-2.4.0b2-patched/pppd/plugins/pppoatm.so: undefined symbol: set_line_discipline_hook
/usr/sbin/pppd: Couldn't load plugin /usr/src/ppp-2.4.0b2-patched/pppd/plugins/pppoatm.so

When i comment out that line, obviously the error goes away but then:
I get this in the syslog when I run pon
pppd[217]: pppd 2.4.2b1 started by root, uid 0
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module tty-ldisc-3
pppd[217]: Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid argument
pppd[217]: Exit.

Please is there anyone out there that can help me PLEASE!

HadesThunder - if you have nothing useful to contribute, don't bother posting.

And you should also check what you type - if your intention is to delete /usr your command won't work.
