Chat on suse linux

Hi guys,
Is there some command in linux (SUSE) to chat between two linux systems.

I saw 'wall' but it doesnt work on my system.
I basically want to communicate (chat) with my friend who is logged on another linux machine.

Thanks

There are of course numerous ways to do it. 'wall' or 'talk' for example. Do you want to chat directly (i.e. without any external/3rd-party message servers)? If you're ok with chatting trough internet, you could use IRC (for example irssi is a great client, or XChat for GUI experience) - but if you want direct chatting and don't like the idea of having your own private IRC server, you might want to stay within the "native" solutions. If 'wall' is not installed but you want it, have you checked the SuSE package reposities (trough YaST) if you can install it from there?

#1. In what way does it not work?
#2. How can "wall" help you communicate from linux system to linux system?

Talk, utalk, ytalk, xtalk, etc. are probably what you are looking for, IRC could work too -> ngircd is a nice, good, lightweight IRC server, easy to set-up.
