Logitech Quickcam Chat and Suse

I have just bought a Logitech Quickcam because I was told that it would work with SUSE 10.0 from the box but this is not the case.
I did a seach for drivers to run under Linux and found kernel-module-SPCA5xx-3.6.13-15.8-.i586.rpm; and loded this but to no effect.
Could someone give me some advice and guidance. I have little experience with SuSe and Linux so please explain in some detail.
Thank you.
Steve

I am not sure the driver SPCA5xx is the right one for this webcam. Check in the spca5xx driver site (http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html).
Anyway, I have a webcam from BenQ that works with the driver spca5xx.
To be sure this drive is working with your webcam, download from mxhaard's site, the program spcaview. If spcaview can display images from your camera, then you are sure the system (kernel/driver/usb/camera) is working, and then, you need to find the problem in another place. In my case, I was trying to put my webcam to work with "xawtv" and I figure out the problem is "xawtv", not the driver.

My advice is to uninstall the kernel-module-SPCA5xx-3.6.13-15.8-.i586.rpm and compile yourself the latest version of the driver from mxhaard's site. I did that.

keep posting and I will help you as much I can.

Cheers,
