Characters for usernames


How many characters does Linux recognize on usernames?

8,16,32 or 64??

libc6 system you can go up to 32 chars w/out causing irregularities. If you are asking how many it should be I would say at least 5 letters , it does not have to be in increments, you can do 8 9 10 how ever many characters you want. Finally I would say the password is more important than the username , passwords should be alpha numeric and have at least 8 characters and a special character ie

username J.Doe
passwor AweSome,Pass$
