Changing Grub Menu at Bootup

Greetings,

I have loaded RedHat 9 in a dual-boot situation with WinXP.

The menu is very nice for Red Hat but mischieviously identifies Windows XP Pro as...

...DOS!!!! ;-)

Having used every version of DOS from 2.x onwards, it doesn't bother me.

But I want to change it for appearance purposes to something like "Windows XP pseudo-Professional Billy World"

How can I do that. I think the system is called GRUB or somesuch. I have tried pressing the 'e' key etc. but those are load options, not menu modifications.

Thanks!

You will need to edit your /etc/grub.conf file.

Change this line:
title DOS
to
title Windows XP (or whater)

See grub documentation for additional help.

Thought it was /boot/grub/menu.lst; or has it changed?

The file was found! I can't remember which one now, but it must have been in the original directory named.

No problems altering the entry.

Appreciate the guidance!

Cheers,

it depends on the distro,
but menu.lst is also possible
