change bash login message

Lo,

i got a problem with the ssh login message:

Code:
Fatal error: Received unexpected header from the server:
expected "FooProggy 1.11\n" but received
"Last login: Tue Jun 13 15:39:46 2006
from 29.foo.net\013\013\n",
which differs at "L".
There shouldnt be anything upon login. Anyone know how to remove it? Obviously to do with .bash* -files, but to me it looks like stabbing the /etc/ -stuff which i'm not so confident with.

I got Fedore core 4.

I think you generally edit /etc/motd for this. Just make a backup copy of the file in case you screw it up. Then you can always restore the original.

Thanks but /etc/motd is empty :O To rephrase, i would like to remove this first line that says 'last login...':

Code:
Last login: Tue Jun 13 18:47:40 2006 from 29.foo.net
[root@s988776 ~]#
I actually solved my original problem by other means, but would be nice to know still
