How to change the text message on the login page?

Hey everyone...newbie here...

I am trying to change the text on the login prompt page which says "Welcome to (Servername)" to say something else. Does anyone know where I can go to manipulate this file, if at all? If not, is there a way that I can have a text box pop up after each login?? If so, how would I go about doing that?

I would greatly appreciate all the help anyone can provide.

Thanks in advance.

The text is stored in /etc/motd.
You may have to edit rc.local (usually in somewhere like /etc/rc.d/) because this tends to overwrite the file at bootup.

right, /etc/motd if you want to change the login message, or edit /etc/issue , /etc/ for editing the system description at login prompt
