Its a strange one Ive got here.
Since reverting back to a dual boot (xp and jaunty) I havent been able to play in browser videos. These include BBC iplayer and other less reputable film/tv video sites (veoh, 56.com etc) .
I get the same problem in firefox and opera.
Also, Ive had problems with site links not being recognised and general not-working, but seen as its on both browsers and has only happened since I re-booted the system I can only assume theres a deeper reason
I dont know if its related but i couldnt play other videos initially on vlc, totem or Mplayer either. This was fixed by changing the vlc video settings to x11 instead of default and now works fine. Probably unrelated but there you go.
Heres the aboutlugins from my firefox. Ive tried installing quite a few on different peoples indications with no luck.
All help will be greatly appreciated. this has been driving me mad for ages!

Had similar problems myself but eventually resolved. Copyright issues will always be there and picking your way through them is a minefield. Backward engineering takes time and vendors change their code to avoid that.
Re-installed BBC iplayer and it cured the problem but that maybe dependent on proprietary prerequisites. Keep trying or work out a script for installing unofficial addons.
