i'm a newbie to linux...

i can mount cd's by right clicking in graphic mode in computer map.
but when i try to update or change software it still asks me to insert the install cd.

The icon for the CD has permissions, under right click > properties. Those permissions need to allow 'others' permission to use the drive. Also, you have no fstab lines for a CD drive. You don't need those lines anymore, but I still use them. I wouldn't use FC8 if you aren't familiar with Linux. Try FC6. Unstable versions require an in depth knowledge of Linux, and are primarily intended for experienced users to assist the developers by reporting bugs.
