Cant get sound with alsa and its causing me problem.

Some games require alsa.

I know it can work because it worked before i formatted my hd and installed gentoo. (I had gentoo before too).

I get this error when im trying to start alsamixer:

"alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory"

How the beep do i get alsa to work, i already spent to much time trying to get it work.

Do you have alsa support compiled into the kernel? If so, is your souncard driver compiled in as a module or directly into the kernel?

No you didn't what? You didn't compile support for your soundcard into the kernel? How do you expect alsa to work then? Did you use genkernel or compile the kernel yourself?
