Just did it.. You end up with a deb file. Code:

Code:
$ tar xzvf cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz
Output:
Code:
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/packages/
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/packages/cnijfilter2_5.40-1_amd64.deb
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/packages/cnijfilter2_5.40-1_i386.deb
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/resources/
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/resources/printer_zh_utf8.lc
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/resources/printer_ja_utf8.lc
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/resources/printer_fr_utf8.lc
cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb/install.sh
Or with a dash should work, so I don't know what is wrong with your tar utility.

** edit **
Are you sure the file is in the download directory?

Sorry, the correct name of the file is 'cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz' not 'cnifilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz'

Code:
tar -zxvf cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz

As Ferrari said earlier, I would run:
Code:
$ ./install.sh
In the directory which has the given file after the extraction.

Did the install script complete ok? If so, check the configured printers...
Code:
lpstat -t

Did you ever add yourself to the wheel group and edit with:
Code:
sudo visudo
Doesn’t look as if the install script was executed.
