I have written to Lenovo 3 times to try to resolve the following problem and have had no reply.
I did a clean install of Kubuntu Linux 22.0.4 from a dvd to replace Kubuntu 18.0.4 and am now unable to enter the BIOS to change the Boot Order (or do anything else). I can boot into the new OS only if I use the Novo button then go to Boot and select the OS. If I select BIOS, a dialog box asks for a "System Password" which I don't have. I searched the web and found 2 recommended passwords: (*blank*) and (fwsetup). Neither works. The dialog does not accept non-alphanumeric characters. If I select OS from the Boot dialog it goes to GRUB and none of the commands boots the OS. I don't know if I have UEFI firmware as the relevant file is not listed in /sys/admin.
I need the proper "System Password" or whatever other procedure will get me into BIOS.Then I will reinstall Kubuntu 22.0.4. I would appreciate any help or advice you can give.
Sincerely, M.
I have tried the reset hole, Fred. It is called the "Novo button" and I have to use it each time I start the laptop. But I cannot enter the BIOS without the "System Password". That's what I need. I have finally received a reply from Lenovo but their solution is to install Windows 10 using a usb recovery key! No way.
jamison, I cannot put my own password on the BIOS as I cannot enter the BIOS. Otherwise I would do exactly that.
Thanks again. I would appreciate any info on where I can get the System Password.
