Can't start Samba

Hi-
I can't seem to start Samba. As the root user I get the message:
> service smb start
smb: unrecognized service
Samba ran the day before. Where do I turn to debug this?

Some questions for your debugging process...

Is the smb script still in /etc/rc.d/init.d? If so, is it executable? What do you get when you check the service with chkconfig (try man chkconfig)? Are there errors in /var/log/messages, /var/log/syslog or /var/log/samba/* ? What is the output of:

Thanks. I took the misfortune and turned it into the opportunity of a clean install and got my Fedora Core updated from v2 to v4. Thanks again.
