Start Samba

I use Debian in text-based and I have apt-get the Samba packages from Internet. I configurate the smb.conf, but I can't start the Samba. If I do "/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start", I'll get this " no such file or directory". How I get Samba started? What packages I need to download?

Do you have the smbd program somewhere? (probably /usr/sbin or somewhere like that?). Running smbd -D -c /path-to-config/smb.conf should start samba.

Thank you! But I think I go back to Red Hat 9.0, graphical. I'm just a beginner with text-based system and the smb.conf look there different that it looks like in RH. When I install RH in my computer, it takes only few minutes and I'll get samba working. I'll maybe try later Debian again. Thank you anyway.
