Can't install LICQ? MPlayer? please help

I RTFM a few times now and I still get errors, heres exactly what I do

I press ctrl+alt F1, I login under my account enter my pw. I type dir, then I goto the folder I need

/home/$me/MPlayer

I type /configure, then ./configure both the same. Then I type
make, then make install. After that I get errors one of them was an Error 1, and an Error 2.

I also got something like libstc headers. are not installed.

Thanks for help in advance.

Mplayer has the worst install imaginable, the documentation sucks, the writers are just plain rude, and it's the best video application there is.

I'm afraid you'll need to work through one problem at a time untill it's happy. mostly looking for the missing libs and installing them. Also you may need to add /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig after installing libs.

You will need to copy and paste your errors here so we can help. What distro are you using?

you cannot run make install until make runs with aborting with errors.

You really should provide a bit more info. I am sure you know exactly what you are talkin about, but to us, that's as generic as it gets (to me anyway).

You'll need some tools installed to compile programs from source. You'll need GCC, glibc, binutils and a few others. These are called devlopment tools and are used to compile/install programs from source.

Just to set it straight though a VERY generic way to install SOME sources is:
./configure
make
make install
After each one finishes make sure there were no errors. If there were, that's what you'll need to fix. Also, most of the time you'll want to read the README and INSTALL files for more information on how to install the program and maybe some necessary tools/files/libs as well. Alot of the time you can:
./configure --help
To get some more info on things you can add to the configure script to aid in the installation/enhance the program abilities.

If you post here some of the error messages, we might be able to help a bit more too

Cool
