Can't add ppa, it does not support bionic
I am very new in Linux. I am using a Machine with Gig-B85M-D3H, 1 GB HDD, RAM 4 GB, OS Linux Mint 19.1. I have switched from Windows 10 to Linux.
I wantedto merge movies (.mp4) but could not find any suitable software except "MP4 joiner". But my ill luck I could not add the ppa even. In terminal the error message is coming like "cannot add ppa. It does not support bionic"
Kindly help me.
This is an example of a good post for a newbie. You've told us your specs [though I take it you mean 1TB HDD, not 1GB], what distro you're running, what you want to do, what you've tried [mostly] and what hasn't worked. You've also been humble and polite, no "urgent, I need help now!!!" outbursts. Well done.
As for an answer to your question, if MP4 joiner isn't supported by the Mint/Ubuntu repos, it's worth looking around a bit more.
Check out this link, you'll see at least three other command line suggestions there that would hopefully work for you.
You can also try dmMediaConverter if you want GUI.

Thank you for pointing the error about HDD. It is 1TB. What I tried is given as follows:
PHP Code:
soma@soma-B85M-D3H:~$ sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:upubuntu-com/system [sudo] password for soma: HTTP Error 404: Not Found Cannot add PPA: ''This PPA does not support bionic''.
Code:
soma@soma-B85M-D3H:~$ sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:upubuntu-com/system
[sudo] password for soma:
HTTP Error 404: Not Found
Cannot add PPA: ''This PPA does not support bionic''.

I made a mistake and forgot to mention CPU which is i-5 4440 @3.10 Hz X 4.
I was searching in Google for mp4Joiner in Linux and the following link appeared
In this link I found the command for terminal.
However making it upubuntu.com instead of upubuntu-com the problem remains in other form
Code:
soma@soma-B85M-D3H:~$ sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:upubuntu-com/system
[sudo] password for soma:
HTTP Error 404: Not Found
Cannot add PPA: ''This PPA does not support bionic''.
soma@soma-B85M-D3H:~$ sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:upubuntu.com/system
[sudo] password for soma:
Cannot add PPA: 'Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)'.
soma@soma-B85M-D3H:~$
Actually I wanted to learn why such error messages come and what are thw ways to avoid them. In Its FOSS guide I found a way to change the certificate. Which I tried but in vain.
I am not very much hardpressed for this programme as I have installed "MKVtoolNIX GUI" which is serving my purpose. There is AVIDMUX which also merve VDO files.
My purpose is to know the way to avoid such error messages.
I have beforhand searched the forum threads and studied all the suggestions. But I think MELT is the only good one but i don't have enough knowledge to realise and use melt.

In this case I don't imagine there's much you can do if the PPA isn't compatible with Bionic Beaver's repos. In fact, I would take this as a blessing.
In my Ubuntu days I would try to avoid PPAs wherever possible [and sites like "Up Ubuntu"]. Just try to keep things in-official-repo as much as possible and follow the official documentation. If you can do what you need to without using a PPA, all the better.

If all you want to do is join a couple of movies together, I'd take a look at Openshot, the easiest-to-use video editor there is. It uses MELT.
Open both your .mp4 files. Drag 'em one by one onto the 'timeline', and drop 'em. You can use some of the transitions to ease the 'join'.
Then, just export the whole thing as a single file, to whatever location you want.
That's what I'd do.
(Of course, you could do all this CLI-style, by using ffmpeg.....but that's a wee bit esoteric for my liking, with the need for lots of 'switches' and options, and if you don't get 'em JUST right, it won't work.)
GUIs are definitely better for some things..!
Mike.
