Boot-up with Ubuntu LTS 20.04 drops to BusyBox

It’s been like this for a few days. This is my only OS on this pc (also my first Linux pc [probably foolish for that]) and I don’t have a live usb, either (certainly foolish). I’ve done some research into how this could happen and ran it in recovery mode. This brought up a few lines which were significant in attempts to fix it in various guides.

Code:
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules: ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root does not exist. Dropping to a shell!
I would hope to find a fix that doesn’t require an outside piece of equipment, since tools and money are pretty tight. Learning how to prevent this from ever happening again would also be fantastic, since it would be useful for myself and other users.

Are you using disk encryption? The cryptsetup tools and or lvm2 might of been removed from the initramfs.

I don't of any other way to fix this except for running a live USB.

Did you remember making any configuration changes or maybe updating and or installing something to the system prior to it not booting?

Are you saying you no longer have the install USB ?. That should function ok as a liveUSB.
Depending on how busybox was built, you may have lsblk available, but that is just tinkering around the edges - I agree it looks like an initramfs issue.

What was the status of this machine ?. Had it been in use for a while (and hence has useful data on it), or was it an initial build. If the latter, a simple re-install will get you going fastest. Things like this don't tend to happen by themself - what did you do (or allow to happen) ?. Was this an upgrade, did an update run ... ? We can't help if we don't have correct/complete info.
We also need to see any commands you enter and the output - in full.
