boot problem


hey i am a noob to linux i installed mandriva 2005 this moring for the first time it all went smoothly but i only had a couple of mins to play around with it then had to go, i shut it down but it didnt shut down quick enought and i turn the computer off at the power button cos i was in a hurry, i get home this arvo boot it up and it loads but not in the normal gui, it loads in a text base kinda like dos it still wants login and stuff i try init 5 and nothing happends can some 1 please explain what need doing to get rid of the dos like format i rebooted several time and nothing happened.


windows on a 80 gig hdd
files on a 200gig hdd
files on a 80 gig hdd
mandriva 2005 on a 80 gig hdd kde

intel 3.0ghz
1gig of ram
nvidiva 6800 pci-e

Type startx (and press enter) at the command prompt. That will start the x server and get the GUI going. It sounds like the x server is not being started by the boot process.
