I'm still kinda new to linux. I've been learning my way around the command line and been experimenting with linux on a couple computers of mine. Occasionally after trying a few things, grub or linux won't load right. I've done some research on possible tools to help but I was wondering if any of the more experienced users had some recommendations for boot disk or tools to help repair grub and/or linux desktop/server editions. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time and effort.
p.s. I would also be interested in any fun and interesting tools, programs, and/or repository's that other users have found beneficial. Thanks again.
Knoppix is very good troubleshooting OS/tool.It will help you regain the original GRUB configuration and mount your partition automatically on boot. Catch hold of one of the CD and troubleshoot the grub issue in easy steps.

So use the Knoppix install disk as a boot disk and run the test version using that to repair the grub bootloader or linux system I'm using? I'v done that once or twice with the ubuntu disk but i had problems fixing some issues. Is there any specific version of knoppix you recommend? I've read up on it before when i was reading about cluster computing and I think there were a couple distro's of knoppix. Thanks you for your time and effort in answering my question. I'll download knoppix and let you know how it goes.
I tried both the Knoppix DVD and CD that i burned. I also tried other boot disk and they always lockup right after they start loading. Any ideas. I might try to boot from a thumb drive and see what that does.
I just remembered something. I had problems before because of the SCSI Harddrives and the IDE disk drives. It also acted up when i put an IDE raid card in and added another 4 harddrives. Ill try disconnecting the raid card and see what happens. I think it might not have been recognizing the harddrives. ill let you know if it works.
That was it. I feel dumb now hehe. I pulled all the peripherals out (just a bunch of network adapters i thought were supported) and the promise card and all but one stick of ram. It started right up. I'm going to have to recheck the hardware and see if its supported. Thanks for the help though. Knoppix's came in handy working on some of my other systems. Going to mark this thread as closed.
