Question backup software - openware/freeware, RHEL or something else, what is good

Hello,

I have a small RHEL v4 2.6.9 EMT64 machine I use for R&D
for Oracle and am afraid to install packages or anything else because it is running ok now, and I have no backup software/plan/strategy to date.

Any suggestions, resources, infrastructure or ideas on where to start
would be great.

THANKS.
