Audio CD's only play under GNOME? Why not KDE?

after fiddling around with some session managers with mandrake, i found that i could actually play audio cd's! but only under gnome... i go back into kde and i try all the audio players i can and they all just fail to read the cd.

under gnome, i use the program CD Player, and it works great, now why can't i play them under kde? anyone else have this problem and how could i solve this?

It could be a problem with aRts, the KDE sound server. Do they fail to read the cd-rom, or just fail to make any noise?

If it is the CD reading which is causing a problem, try running "lsof /dev/cdrom" as root and it should tell you what has the cdrom device already opened.
