I have tried numerous mirrors and download sites, but have not been able to download more that 8% of the YellowDog 5.0.1 ISO. I have disable my firewall and virus software. I was nervous enough about installing a new OS in my brand new PS3, but now I can't even get software downloaded - am I in way over my head?
I considered paying the $69.95 for the DVD's or access to TerraSoft's "enhanced" membership - but not sure I feel comfortable shelling out more money after buying the console, the Logitech media keyboard, an extra controller and membership to Gamefly!!!
Can anyone help? One of the exciting aspects of the PS3 was the web browser - but the PS3 browser is terrible - even with a keyboard - and I would much prefer to use Mozilla.
If you use HTTP mirrors for downloading big files, you probably do need to expect downloads die. FTP mirrors would be better in my experience, and if you could get your hands on a torrent it'd probably be faster way to get it, and more error-free in the sense that the file is downloaded in several pieces instead of just one huge, and if one small piece didn't download well it could be re-downloaded.
Thanks for the information. Can you explain FTB downloads? Do I need any new software?
If you have the time could you help me with a general/quick how-to guide explaining the process (downloading through creation of ISO install disk)
Being a bit lazy aren't we ? Maybe the term 'torrent' threw you off track, try 'bittorrent'. Wikipedia is your friend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent
That torrent is a bit old so can't guarantee it's being seeded. Piratebay's seeder/leecher stats are not very reliable.
Read the comments in that link and you will see some info for 5.0.1
Not sure what license that iso falls under. Hopefully it's legal for sharing.
EDIT// No mention of 5.0.1 in that link afterall. Sorry my mistake.

Thanks everyone...YDL 5.0.1 is installed and running like a dream - very much like a dream - LOL! Never used LINUX before and I was/am lost - but have been able to accomplish some basic tasks. Enabled wireless, repaired the "Switch to GameOS link" I will admit I am nervous about playing around too much - Windows is idiot proof - this is NOT! Any advice for enabling plug-ins - websites are dull to say the least?
