Application Icons in KDE

I'm a newbie to Linux and am using Mandrake Linux 10.1. I've downloaded an RPM for Firefox browser and have managed to use it to install the software. However, I can't see how to create a desktop icon for Firefox (or indeed any other application) under KDE3.2. Can you tell me how this might be done as all the pointers I currently have all look much the same; presumably it IS possible to create icons as they're visible on the panel.
