Adding user

I'm trying to create a user using:

useradd oracleuser -p 12345 -g dba

The DBA group has been created, and the useradd executes without error.

BUT, when I try to log into GNOME using the user I just created, I get an Authentication Failed error. I've also tried telneting and logging on, but can't.

is there more to useradd I am not aware of?

Yeah, that does the trick. Why is that?

oracle doesn't allow the system to be accessed unless the root password has been changed from the default. otherwise, really bad things could happen.
