Adding hard drive space in Ubuntu Linux 18.04 VM running on VMware Workstation

https://i.imgur.com/GQwIcx8.jpg

Hi, Newbie here. Could anyone please help solve my problem?

I am using Ubuntu Linux VM which is on VMware Workstation.

So when I ran out of space for files in the VM I added more space using VMware Workstation.

So I used Gparted to add mote space however I cannot see the extended space and I cannot do anything in Gparted or Disks utility so I can use that added hard drive space.

Could anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

OK, you've got a few balls in the air with that.
The (virtual) "disk" itself, then the partition are as you might expect. The pv is a LVM emulation for allowing dynamic resizing of the storage pool (more useful with multiple disks/partitions). It looks like gparted handled resizing that for you.
Within the pv is the lv(s) which contain the filesystem (simplified view). This is what needs to be resized (as well). If you want all that free space in the ubuntu-lv, try this - it will resize the lv and the filesystem at the same time. LVM is extensively documented (and the following is untested) so I suggest you read up on the commands available.
Code:
sudo lvextend -r -l +%FREE /dev/ubuntu-vg/ubuntu-lv

Thanks, syg00 for the reply and help. I tried the command but it threw an error and I closed the terminal not realising to copy and paste the error here for others.

Anyway I tried Steps 1,2 and 3 mentioned on https://computingforgeeks.com/extend...ing-lvm-linux/

After that, I could see my partition was extended straight away. I rebooted and it was all fine.
