If you're new, you really should read the "How to ask a smart question" and the "Question Guidelines" links in my posting signature. You don't tell us what version of Linux you're using...so we can't tell you what's supported, but generally most any wifi hardware will 'just work', depending on the distro and version. You don't say what kind of hardware...USB? PCI? Laptop? Or what you consider a 'cheap price', or even where you are. We cannot guess.

The 'monitor mode' is telling, and chances are you're going to say you want to use Kali, right?

As TBOne implies and I would assume... monitor mode is used for penetration testing to receive traffic on a wireless channel without being associated to the access point.

I will agree that a person stating that they are watching youtube videos and has concluded that almost all videos are fake, as part of a product search for a WiFi adapter, does seem to be a bit unusual.

Meanwhile I wanted a more clear answer to determine if they instead meant promiscuous mode, as in for network sniffing. That doesn't have to be for penetration testing.
