Post About bugs, crashes etc.

Hi

I use linux for a month now. I can say: Programs here are good, but everything most likely will crash.

Mr Project - task management program

I found this program 2 weeks ago in my start menu under office>task management.
I created here one file and was amazed how qualitatively and fast I can manage my tasks.
When I saved this file and tried to open it. It returned me error:
Application is crashed due to segmentation fault.
Process 2901

XMMS audio player

Works well until it just crashes playing audio. Saying:
You have choosen wrogn sound card.
This is because:
1. and 2. and 3., do not remember exactly
This repeats REGULARLY.

Konqueror

Crashes regularly 7-12 times this month.
Just saying:
This application Konqueror crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).

For example this repeats regularly when I open one link in home page. In windows this link opens automatically word document.

+ I even doesn't have any hopes setting up SAMBA, gtk and mdk (who knows what does it mean, anyway), any games, adobe reader and gnupg.

This everything makes my head in complete mess. Yesterday setting up gtk from Mandrake Control Center, I lost many programs in my start menu:
gimp, all section of graphical programs
amusement section is now left with only two games
lost Mr Project too
etc.

After all this, can I have a hope to normally use linux, not becoming a programmer???
Or should I leave Linux and go back to sucking Microsoft????

Regards

Juris

Don't know anything about "Mr. Project" application, can't help on that one really.

XMMS, what version are you using? Have you tried upgrading?

Konqueror, well there are dozens of other browsers out there you can try. Personally I like Firebird from mozilla.org.

But sounds like from all the programs getting segmenation faults, sounds like memory problems possibly. You running KDE I take it? Have you tried any other Window Managers or Desktops? I would suggest running memory tests. Linux uses memory more effeciently, maybe one reason this might not happen in Windows...
