Question About Boot Loader in Linux

Friends ,

I am using Redhat Enterprise Linux . I know there are two Boot Loader Options in Linux , GRUB and LILO .

But During Installation moment , I don't get no "Boot loader" choice option into my linux machine . Perhaps by default it gets GRUB loader . But if i want to run "LILO" boot loader into my Linux then what will i do ?

And What is the benifits of using these types of boot Loader GRUB and LILO .

2) In my HDD i make dual boot. One is Windows and other is Linux . But when i make fully DELETE my partition ,sometimes it shows "grub >" option when there is no windows into my HDD . I try to remove this option but i can't. Can anyone tell me plz what is the problem and how i can remove my "grub >" option from my HDD .

You're English is a little hard to understand so I'll do my best to answer your questions.

You can uninstall the grub rpm and install the lilo rpm if you so choose, personally I like grub, but I understand it is much easier to add bootsplash to LILO.

2. If you're removing Linux (which is what I think you're saying) than in order to get rid of grub you need to use the Windows boot CD in repair mode and at the command prompt fixmbr.
If you're removing Windows and would like to remove the Windows option in GRUB then edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst and comment out the section for Windows (just in case you decide to reinstall at a later time).

I hope that helps

grub is useful when booting multiple os. lilo was made especially for linux.

you can use grub as the first loader then chainload to lilo. lilo can be booted in the root.

example

grub setup in hd0 (master boot record)
lilo setup in hd0,0 (fs root)
windows boot setup in hd0,1 (fs root)

tell me what you don't know

you can take a look at my config too at this topic:
