486, pentium 1s


Hey guys is anyone running 486 computers or pentium 1s??? I need a distro for a couple of mine.

Any help would be greatly appreciiated,

i am no longer running a 486 but i have in the past
(25MHz)

slackware 10 works quite well with it.
dont install X unless you really neeed it as it will be slow.
(if you have enough HDD to do so (i only had 800MB))

if you do use X then use either cholestrol free DE (XFCE)
or *box (black box, fluxbox, hacked box etc...)

how did you go with the installation like booting from the cd cos i know all my 486's cant boot from cd and bootdisks arent goin too good

there was some way of using rawwite to create a bootdisk in there somwhere.
it was one of my first experiances with linux so i cant remember exactly

try asking on the slackware forum here,
they might know how to make a bootdisk
