Hi,

I have a Xircom 56 GlobalACCESS (RM56G) PCMCIA modem in my Dell Latitude
laptop running under RH9. Unable to properly activate the modem. On
activation the modem dials out and handshake tones are heard but the system
returns, "activating network device PPP0, please wait..." and does nothing.
It then tries to dial again, returning the same message ad infinitum. Any
suggestions?

This modem is supposed to work under RH9. Have also occasionally received
messages...
"failed to activate PPP0 with error 6" and "failed to activate PPP0 with
error 8", but can't find any explanation anywhere on what these error codes
are. Any suggestions?

I just got the error 8 message. Did you have any luck resolving your problem. I want to get back onto Linux.

I had no luck with this. I spoke to Xircom and they said that this modem does not work in the RH9 distro.
