I have been using xubuntu for months now, and I have modified it to use mostly fvwm and the command line. I don't have xfce or other GUI niceties, as my laptop is too slow, PII. I have been able to connect to networks that don't require authentication. I'm using a Windows computer now, that uses the same network. I have WPA_supplicant installed. Given this information I figure that my computer can connect to encrypted networks, but I simply don't know how to configure my network on Linux properly when the encryption key is on. I have looked at a nice web site to try to do this on my own. I have read through the man pages as well. Really, I just want to be able to connect using iwconfig right now. I can worry about connecting auto-magically latter.
One interesting bit of information: when I try to connect now, I am immediately thrown into an error page, on Firefox. Normally, when I try to connect to open networks, my computer will at least search for a minute before it gives up. Any information is better than no information at this point, and thanks in advance. I have supplied the following typescript file, that I modified, for any information I think is necessary. Obviously I changed the password for this forum.
