Well, WN722N V2 chipset doesn't supports monitor mode, but assuming that yours is a V2, (since you used https://github.com/mfruba/kernel) i'm gonna try to help.

First of all bring the interface down:
Code:
sudo ifconfig wlanx down
(where x could be 1 or 0)
Then:
Code:
sudo iwconfig wlan1 mode monitor
Now check with: iwconfig

Also virtualized machines use an emulated network adapter, so you should try with a live usb and see if it works.

Good luck

Code:
the specified device is claimed by another driver(rtl8188eu) on the host operating system.
The device might be in use.To continue, the device will first be disconnected from its current driver.
