I'm running OpenBSD 4.5 -stable on a brand new install, and the first thing I wanted to do was get wireless connected. This machine had OpenBSD 4.1 -stable on it before, and I simply copied over a functional hostname.ath0 that isn't working now.
Here's my card details from the dmesg:
Code:
ath0 at pci2 dev 2 fuction 0 "Atheros AR5211" rev 0x01: irq 11
ath0: AR5211 4.2 phy 3.0 rf5111 1.7, WOR1W, addgress 00:03:3e:40:9b
Here's me scanning the area, and my resulting network:
Code:
>> ifconfig ath0 scan
nwid xxxxxx chan 6 bssid 00:0c:41:44:19 80% 54M privacy
Here are the /etc/hostname.ath0 entries I've tried:
Code:
dhcp nwid xxxxxx nwkey 0xXXXXXXXX chan 6
dhcp NONE NONE NONE nwid xxxxxx nwkey 0xXXXXXXXX chan 6
dhcp NONE NONE NONE nwkey 0xXXXXXXXXX
... and more
Here is my current network status:
Code:
>> ifconfig ath0
ath0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
lladdr 00:03:3e:30:4f:8b
priority: 0
groups: wlan
media: IEEE802.11 autoselect (DS11 mode 11b)
status: active
ieeee80211: nwid xxxxx chan 6 bssid 00:0c:41:44:19 80% nwkey 0xXXXXXXX
inet6 fe80::208:4eff:fe40:6f9b%ath0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x2
With all that, here is what happens when I restart the network:
Code:
>> sh /etc/netstart
DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 2
DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 3
DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 5
DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8
DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 10
DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 16
DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 2
No DHCPOFFERS received.
No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.
I've tried a ton of combinations of hostname.ath0 entries, and I thought my initial entry was going to work, as that's what I used in the past (on 4.1). I've read and confirmed my network key is correct about 1000 times as well, so I know it's simply not an incorrect key.
I'm not the most proficient at IP addressing, so am not sure if the broadcast address and mask are correct or not? On another machine which is successfully connected to the network, it has the router at 10.1.1.1 and the mask is 255.0.0.0.
Any suggestions would be a warm welcome. Thanks!
