Windows file server only allows 10 samba connections?

I'm using a windows machine as a file server (I know... I know. There is a real reason for doing this... but it's only temporary). In any event, I would like for my 40+ linux render nodes to be able to connect to the windows box using a samba mount, but after 10 of them connect, I get an error -71. I guess this has something to do with a windows configuration.

Is there something I need to do on the windows machine to allow more than 10 connections?

Thanks

I seem to remember that windows workgroups have a limit of 10 users/connections.

Your correct a workstation is limited to 10 simultaneous connections. I haven't found a way to increase this limit.

That certainly stinks.

One more reason not to use a Windows machine as a file server.

Which forces one to pay extra for the server edition....

There is kind of a workaround:

http://searchwinsystems.techtarget.c...299745,00.html

This will force Windows to consider a connection "idle" sooner, enabling other clients to mount shares. The results can be unpredictable though from a user perspective.

yeah... but I need them all to connect and pull data at once. Looks like 10's the limit unless I build a windows server machine.

thanks for the info.
