Why pre-terminated fiber optic cables comes on a Triple Flange Spool

I am facing an issue while installing the fiber-optic cable in my building and having a question, why do cables come on a triple flange spool.

Any one know about this?

Hello wrightfrank11, and welcome to LQ.

No direct experience here. Plastic Optical Fibre (POF) is handy enough. I did a project with POF, which is flexible but lossy in 2013/2014, and it was all single rolls. But there are issues particularly with (nearly lossless) glass fibre:
  • It's a bitch to join end to end.
  • You can't bend it hardly at all.
For these reasons, or maybe to suit existing installation equipment, your glass fibre might be 1x 1000 metres instead of 2x500 metres, because that would save you 50% of joints in a long run. Glass fibre is mainly used over longer distances. POF needs repeaters after ~50 Metres. What are you using?
