Where is a netcard configured?

Hi there!

I am used to use /etc/network/interfaces to configure my ethernet cards.

Some time ago I moved from debian wheezy (an upgraded squeeze) to slackware and recently from slackware back to a fresh installed wheezy I found that network cards aren't configured there anymore.
Now I guess that my old wheezy was using the interfaces file because it was an upgraded squeeze - nothing I enter in the interfaces file is recognized and when I enter

Code:
ls -ltu
in /etc/network I can see that this file hasn't been accessed during boot.

So, where can I change the settings of my ethernet cards now?

TIA

Gregor

The current debian release is buster i.e. version 10. wheezy is version 7 which has reached EOL.

By default networking is configured via network manager which is accessed from the network applet if running a GUI.

You can still use the interfaces file with or without nm.
