where can I find a free socks 4 or 5 proxy and info on setting it up

from what I've found about socks proxies is that you need a user name and a password
or a proxy with out a login

sorry guy, I have no idea what are you looking for.
Do you need a working socks proxy (and you want to use that) or you would like to create it?

my internet access it through screwed up public wifi most of the time google links dealing with linux just don't work there not blocked they just don't work the browser dose not respond
I have already set my computer to use google's DNS server but it dose not help
ftp dose not work nether dose pop

I want to get around the broken parts of this wifi with a ssh tunnel

it looks simple lots and lots of info on setting up a server but very little on the client side
the client side info I keep finding says I need user name and password so it looks like I need an account some place so where can I find a free socks account or where can I find a socks proxy that dose not need an account and how do I use it

I think that if you use google to search it actually performs a dns. So putting google dns servers won't change it.

I get the feeling that your public free service has a snort or other layer 7+ UTM.

Guess you could test via other networking tools to see if you can really access the FQDN.
