WAN restricted to first of two boxes to be powered up.

I have two boxes connected to a wired router connected to a modem.
The first box PSU to be powered up that the router sees gets both WAN and LAN access to the other box and the IP of 192.168.02.
The second box PSU to be powered up that the router sees only gets LAN access to the the other box and the IP of 192.168.03.
So by juggling the PSU switches i can alternatively get WAN for either box.
What could be done to get it working properly ?

Solution : Mistakenly setting box 192.168.03 to be an internet FTP server in the router options causes the restriction, something i thought would be needed for LAN FTP !

There is already a bunch of solutions for this so you can go redundancy crazy.

Failover routing: http://www.muug.mb.ca/pipermail/roun...ay/000872.html

VRRP: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/rhel-ce...configuration/

Check out active-passive clusters in Linux for more fun.

Thanks for replying mpapet,
your first suggestion, the failover routing, needs two separate default gateway routes
but there is only one gateway shown in the WAN settings of the modem, which seems to change periodically (dynamically ?).

ETA : The PPP operational status of the modem from the second box is : Link Up

Not really. The boxes behind the redundant gateways can do fail over routing.
