VNC and US layout Keyboards

I've just installed Redhat on a system and am trying to get it to work with TightVNC so that I dont hvae to have a keyboard monitor or mouse plugged into the machine.

I've configured iptables so that I can access the ports required by VNC so that I can access the machine via my laptop (US Keyboard Layout) which has an external keyboard attached to it (Once again US keyboard layout).

If I log into RH using the physical computer everything works fine. I can then log in via VNC and my laptop and type normaly.

However If I don't log onto the physical computer, when I try using VNC the input is screwed up. when I go to type w-w-w.something what I actually get is "...]bzgnkl\j" ***remove - signs***

RH system keyboard layout is set to US English.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
