viewing windows shares

I can view shares set up on my linux box but how do I view shares that are set up on my Windows 2000 and 98 boxes from Linux?

I have tried via Nautilus but all I see is the home folders for users.

Thanks.

To view Windows shares sue this command

smbmount //servername/share /mountpoint

If there is a password setup then it will prompt for it, but if there isn't then a prompt will come up and just press enter.

If that doesn't work post any errors message syou get here and I can try and help you.

I'm using RH 6.0 (I know, I know... I need to upgrade) and get this error message when trying to connect to my Win2K share:

error connecting to <my win2k ip addy>:0 (connection refused)

I'm using the smbmount command passing my username and password for the Win2k machine. Any ideas?

Try this.

Just try using the smbmount comamnd with the Win2k server ans share and let the program ask you for the password. also make sure that you are not being blocked by a firewall.

Write back if it doesn't work.

Just a suggestion, I'm learning Samba myself, but have you told Samba to join the windows domain?

Once I did this, I had no problems. If you need to join an NT domain:

Shut down the Samba daemons. Go to your PDC, open the Server Manager and add your Samba server as a Windows NT Workstation or Server using the Netbios name from your smb.conf file. Then, at a Linux terminal prompt, type

smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDCSERVER

where DOMAIN is your NT domain and PDCSERVER is the name of your Primary Domain Controller.

Restart the Samba daemons.
