Verizon FIOS and Linux

Hi everyone. I have Verizon FIOS 20/5 service. I have a few machines. Kubuntu 6.1, Suse 10, Xubuntu 6.1 and Windows XP. My internet is considerably faster on the Windows XP machine compared to my Kubuntu machine. This does not make me happy as I am looking to rid myself of XP. Am I missing something with regard to settings in order to optimize the high speed of FIOS? Hardware and CPU wise the XP machine is slower and older.

Thanks so much!

Things I would look into is make sure ipv6 is disabled and using the nameservers provided by verizon. Use the same the XP is using.
